A practitioner-developed framework to prevent and overturn wrongful convictions with digital evidence.

The National Digital Evidence Readiness Framework for Public Defense gives defense attorneys and investigators a practical starting point, free working resources, and a repeatable process for identifying, preserving, and evaluating digital evidence.

Developed by Michael Udvardy and the Digital Innocence Initiative (DII) through direct work with public defenders, the framework strengthens defense practice. It has prevented and overturned wrongful convictions and, when deployed early, has prevented arrests in most cases.

DII’s casework has also demonstrated the need for systematic post-conviction review of cases involving missing, misunderstood, inaccessible, or inadequately evaluated digital evidence.
